RISE OF THE GUARDIANS: AS THE YEARS PASS...

SCENE ONE: The growth of Jamie Benett.

Far off the snowy packs of the mountain sides. There lived the domain of North’s palace far lit with beautiful lights far as the eye could see. There within the palace were the fellow loyal and brave guardians on an important check threw a progression if you must say of the children’s belief. All sitting around doing God knows what. Tooth talking to the baby tooths, Bunnymund colouring his egg quietly, sandy snoozing, North tracking down in his maps and last but not least Jack, who is busy fiddling with his carved centre, looking back and forth on its carving. It was as if Jack’s mind was somewhere else. It was a feeling of loneliness much like the early days of Pitch’s rain. It was a sign of a person he long missed and long awaited for.

Tooth [looks at Jack.]: Jack... you don’t look so good. Something on your mind?

Jack: What!? No! Nothing at all! Why would you say that!?

Tooth: it’s okay to miss someone Jack; I do it all the time!

Jack: ... well I do miss someone...

Tooth: don’t worry Jack! Jamie still believes... I’m sure of that...

Jack: How’d you know it was-?

Tooth: Oh Jack, silly Jack, you don’t know how to hide your emotions well. Besides I had the same face too when I missed someone!

Jack: the thing is, he’s coming tomorrow from his summer vacation and I really want to see him, I mean what kind of a friend would I be if I don’t attend his arrival... [Puts his hands behind his head and miles.]

Tooth: that’s a good idea, Jack!

Jack: I just hope he hasn’t stopped believing...

Tooth [holds his shoulder and smiles.]: I pretty sure he still remembers...

Bunnymund: but don’t be too sure mate! Remember he’s not the same Jamie he was!

Tooth: Bunny!

Jack: whatdya saying!?

Bunnymund: I’m saying that he isn’t gonna be a little ‘Joey’ forever mate! He’s gonna grow up sometime. Has no choice, no way out... I thought you’d know that my now Frostbite!

Jack: that’s what worries me...

Tooth: well no matter how old he gets he’s gonna remember trust me on that!

Bunnymund: I’m only concern on Sophie... if you see her please let me know...

Jack: sure thing! Well it’s getting late, better head back to Burgess! Gotta keep a close eye out for their car!

Tooth: jack!

Jack: what is it?

Tooth: if things don’t work out... just know that you would make other children happier instead...

Bunnymund: you know where your duties lye... one child one make a difference if you believe in yourself...

Jack: he’s different... he’s all the children I would ever ask for in one person... he’s special... and I know him, he will believe till the end...[opens the large glass window.] WIND!!!!! Take me home!!!!!!!!

[Jack flies off with the wind back to Burgess.]

The next morning arose quicker through which the sun just came up. Jack with all the excitement created a new batch of snow, more exciting, exhilarating, and full of fun and mischief. It was a typical snow day, the one of Jack Frost’s of course. A small red minivan drove along the roads. Jamie’s mother driving in the front seat; at the back where Jamie (now 18yrs old.) and Sophie (now 12yrs) sit minding their own business. Jamie’s listening to his IPod and Sophie’s busy texting her friends on her IPhone with music in her ears. They park over to their garage. She turns off the car and comes out to lift the back door. Jack anxiously waits to see the changes that have befallen Jamie. He bites his lip in anxiety as this might be something he might not take very well if it’s not as he anticipates. He waits up on a tree a few paces away from their house, tense like a disturbed bee.

Jamie’s mom: JAMIE! SOPHIE! Would you help me take the luggage!!!!!?

Jamie [taking his ear piece off to hear his mother.]: what was that!?

Jamie’s mom: I swear you’ll soon be deaf and I’d have to scream just to get your attention!

Jamie: I know what you said, mom! I’ll take the boxes but can you gently take my guitar to my room! I don’t want it all scratched up in the first day because of luggage!

Jack [confusion of excitement.]: Guitar? Wonder what he has up his sleeves!

Jamie’s mom: Oh James, don’t be such a fuss! I’m sure its fine as ever, besides I know myself and i know how you we your life to this thing as much as music!

Jack [whispers to himself anxiously.]: Come on buddy! Show yourself already!!!!

Jamie [putting his ear phone back in his ear while he gets out of the car.]: ... sigh! It’s good to be home! Soph you gotta smell that fresh snow!

Jack, astonished by Jamie, cannot begin t see the changes and explain them to himself. Jamie is wearing a black hoodie covering his face like the way Jack does but his face is more like Jack’s and it resembles Jack’s figure (his facial figure.). It was as if Jack was looking into some mirror, his face, his posture, his laughter, his body shape; but not all of him was the same as Jack. Unlike Jack he was wearing modern clothes, his voice was deep in a different tone to Jack’s and he had straighter hair, more properly fixed but his hoodie hid that hair and most of those features to tell any difference. He sees Jamie smiling and laughing as his shoes stab the ground softly. Jack only looks with embrace and chuckles.

Jack: you really changed Jamie... [Slowly turns sorrowful.] I just hope not all of you has changed!

Jamie’s mom [caring the guitar roughly.]: So Jamie, where do you want me to keep the guitar

Jamie: WOW! Careful mom!!!! [Goes t aid his mom in worry.] PLEASE!!! I said GENTLY!!!!!

Jamie’s mom: you know what you do it yourself! Sophie! Dear, could you please help us here!?

Sophie: Sure thing mom!

Jack: so let’s see Sophie’s transformation...

Sophie comes out of the car with her phone right close to her face and her thumbs working on the phone. She wears a purple sweater with Easter egg knitting’s. Her hair still covering her eye still, an elegant figure so fresh and tall, fit and strong. Yet it still looked like she had her childish mind hidden in those golden locks. Jack looked astounded at her change and just thought about Bunnymund just by the look of the sweater. He smiles to himself.

Jack: she has definitely not forgotten you, Bunny...

Jamie: you still texting... [Smiles.]

Sophie: does that bother you!?

Jamie: you do know you can just walk over to their house and say hello once in a while!

Sophie: why do that, and waste valuable time walking towards the house, ringing the door bell, and asking for my friend when I can just text her!

Jamie: Lazy much!

Sophie: Mom!!! Bro’s annoying me!!!

Jamie’s mom: We just got here and you two are fighting! Oh God let this end...

Sophie: it’s not my fault he’s being a spoilt SPORT!

Jamie [increases the music on his IPod so he doesn’t hear anything.]: whistle... whistles...

Jack quickly tries to scream Jamie’s name.

Jack: Hey JAMIE!!!!

Jamie shows no answer. He screams his name again and again but nothing, no answer. Jack suddenly feels this emptiness in him, of ignorance and loneliness. He slowly tries to hold his shoulder almost reaching him with a touch. Out of the fear he might just pass though him he doesn’t bother and his hand falls into his pockets.

Jack: ...Jamie...

Suddenly Jamie here’s a voice, which spoke his name. It was cold and lifeless at first. But before anything was made jack already flew off on top of the roof of their house. Jamie tilted his head slowly and saw nothing. He felt that voice and he longed for someone, someone who brought the light in the darkest times. The light that he believed till today and was hoping to see. The light that brought this snow. The light that was Jack Frost.

Jamie [takes off his hoodie and whispers to himself.]: ...Jack... Jack Frost... Was that... you...?

Sophie: Jamie! Come on in already! Mom says that if you stay outside too long, Jack Frost’s gonna nip at your nose!

Jamie [turns to her with a smile.]: maybe... that’s what I need... Jack Frost...

Sophie [in confusion and awkwardness.]: oooooooooooookay!? You have serious issues!

Jamie: hey! This snow could not come out of nowhere, ya know!

Sophie: here we go again!

Jamie: no for real this time he was here... I felt him... I heard his voice! You have to believe me!

Sophie: I kinda do and kinda don’t... I know he was real, maybe he isn’t any more-

Jamie: you believe in the Easter bunny! What makes Jack Frost any different!!!?

Sophie: sigh... fie I believe in him too, but he’s not here to even see you! Now that’s kinda off balance a little, but I guess he’ll come back soon! [She smiles.]

Jamie [smiles back.]: yeah I guess he will...

The night drew quickly and the bed-time drew near. Both Sophie and Jamie had to hit the sack before tomorrow’s meet up with old friends. Sophie fled to the washroom right after Jamie and took a shower, a very long one. With her voice singing throughout the walls Jamie took out his guitar and started strumming a few notes he wrote down in the summer. He took out sheets of paper and put it on his bed. Before he started he gazed on a small picture he drew 8 yrs ago on the sleigh ride that Jack took him too and only smiled at it and remembered Jack. He sat on his bed and strummed a small short song.

Jamie: ...sigh...

Jamie started playing a song and singing maybe to catch his attention. Jack was busy laying about looking at the stars and the moon as it looked down at him. He only felt lifeless even more. T was as if history repeated in a different way. Suddenly he heard the lyric to Jamie’s strumming. He couldn’t have thought it was a coincidence that the words were as if it was calling him to see him. A calling of a little child to his guardian. He slowly crept next to the window and with a small glimpse saw Jamie in depression. The way Jack looked when he would get depressed.

Jamie: ...sigh... where are you? I want to show you... how much I’ve grown...

Jack: I’ve gotta do something! [Looking at the window sill.] Just like old times... [Touches the window sill as it frosts over.] I hope you still remember this old trick!
Suddenly Jamie hears rubbing of glass and sees images on his window sill of an Easter egg, and at the bottom a bunny. He starts to smile. He sits on his bed watching it, the masterpiece that is Jack’s frost.

Jamie: heh...

Jack: here we go! [The image of the bunny suddenly comes to life and flies off into the room.]

Jamie: wow! It still amazes me!? [Looks all around him as it hops gently.]
Suddenly his slight touch explodes the bunny to a bunch of smaller snowflakes that surround each corner of the room.
Jamie: I can’t believe this! You still haven’t changed, have you!

Jack: well I can’t say the same to you!

Jamie: ...Jack... it’s really you... and to think I forgot...

Jack: I’m just glad you didn’t or I would have frosted your back yard and wrote on the snow myself just to give you a hint!

Suddenly Jamie hugs Jack rapidly without thinking. Jack only now stunned at the surprise he has been given. He embraced him and started chuckling and felt tears on him. Warm falling on his shoulder. It was crying form Jamie.

Jack: looks like I don’t have to bend down when I hug you... hey there [puts his cold hand on Jamie’s head.] its okay, really you don’t have to be sad...

Jamie: I missed you! You have no idea...

Jack held his shoulders and looked at his teary face and felt sorrow. He only smiled and whipped those tears away with his cold palms.

Jack: hey, hey, hey; it alright now, I’m here and I never left you! You look stupid like that!

Jamie [whipping his tears with his Arm.]: I’m just so... happy I guess... I finally have a bother that cares. No w you don’t have to feel like you’re the only 18 year old. I’m already in that number myself.

Jack [crosses his hands and looks not amused.]: I guess you are!

Jamie: huh, what’s wrong?

Jack: just don’t grow taller anymore!!! I don’t want to look like some little kid and besides, you should know how it feels, never to grow up... to see time pass but you stay the same... throughout its changes...

Jamie: sorry about that, I didn’t know you were immortal, totally slipped my mind!?

Jack: fine I forgive you!

Jamie [starts laughing.]: hahahahahahahaha!!!!

Jack [joins the laughter.]: hahahahahahahaha!!!!

Suddenly Sophie walks in the corridor of the room and heard two people laughing inside. She first startled herself and then held the handle of the door. She had a grip with it and suddenly with a bust she opened the door and saw Jamie and Jack together in the room. She only went jaw dropping to this and just froze as the door closed behind her. Standing there, in awkward silence. Jack suddenly started.

Jack: wow Sophie, you changed. I can’t wait to tell that to Bunny, he’d freak!

Jamie: um yeah I guess!? Sophie what are you doing here? Aren’t you gonna help mom!?

Jack: she probably can’t see me so don’t try to hide it, I practically invisible to her!

Sophie: ...Jamie, who’s the dude with the white hair and the out of date pants!?

Jack: hey! I could find better pairs and besides this was the only thing the village had to offer me! We never had designer labels you know!

Jamie: wait a minute! You can see Jack!?

Sophie: uuuuuhhh yeah! Wait this is Jack!

Jamie: yes...

Sophie: the Jack!

Jamie: yes!

Sophie: Jack Frost!

Jamie: YES!

Sophie: OOOOOoooohhhh.....

Jack: you were hard to carry, I can tell you that, you couldn’t stop letting go and you were such a toddler by then, look at you now!

Jamie: you know my sister?

Sophie: you know me!

Jack: yeah, I guess I do?

Sophie: look and listen well buster if you’re one of those internet stalkers you! [Looks into his crystal blue eyes.] You’re kinda cute!

Jamie: Sophie!

Sophie: What!? He is!!!

Jack; well; I know this has been fun, but I gotta go!

Jamie: what?

Sophie: AAAwww already!!!

Drags Sophie out of the room and shuts the door tightly. Sophie walks away to the net room and shuts that door very tightly. Jamie sighs and looks at Jack leaving. He holds Jack’s hand and looks at him.

Jack: I have to go Jamie-

Jamie: will you come back! Will you...?

Jack: Jamie... I’ll be on you like fly on fly paper!

Jamie [smiles.]: tell the other guardians that I say hi! And that they should come see us sometime!

Jack: I’ll try but they won’t be able to their busy, you know them well don’t you!?

Jamie: I know!

Jack [smiles.] seeyah tomorrow Jamie!

Suddenly Jamie let go of Jack and there he went soaring in the sky, like there was no limit, no downfall no nothing. The blast of wind overwhelmed his heart and he felt warm. An unusual feeling he gazed upon that only humans could achieve. He held his heart and smiled at this new feeling that Jack felt. It was new and it was empowering to his body, mind and soul. A small voice from beyond that sounded like that of Jamie’s voice. He could hear from miles away as he touches his chest warmly the voice of Jamie as he said “...Jack... I believe in you... and I always will...”.

Alright, here is my heartless critique: The way you put it flat out, for lack of a better word, p*sses me off. Just that, way don't take it personally, it's just how you didn't draw the environment with your words, just kind of wrote it like a screenplay. Oh, and tip: ALWAYS use your capitalization! It works wonders, trust me! You move too fast with your sentences. Slow down and {Har har har} chill! OOOOOTHEEER THAAAANNN THAAAAT this story has a lot of promise! This just isn't the kind of fanfiction I like. It's just not the right kind of angst, as I'm more of a hopeless romantic. You definitely got it in you, believe me!
